Over the past year, electronic producers have celebrated the musical contributions of Black artists by compiling ORBIT: AMPLIFY playlists. The playlists have succinctly spotlit productions from Black artists and artists of color that have influenced these artists’ careers, and on a simpler level, kept them moving and grooving.
Following respective ORBIT: AMPLIFY playlists from Kyle Kinch, DJ 4rain, Whethan, Cuppy, CeCe Rogers, Martin Badder, Loud Luxury, Akira Akira, Anabel Englund, Brando, Major Lazer‘s Walshy Fire, Crazy Cousinz, Party Favor, VNCCII, and Kevin McKay, Bob Moses step up to curate Dancing Astronaut‘s ORBIT: AMPLIFY playlist for the week of February 1.
Tom Howie and Jimmy Vallance, better known together as beloved Canadian selectors Bob Moses, have roped together a collection of tracks that directly influence the pair’s output in honor of Black History Month. The new ORBIT: AMPLIFY playlist spans the sounds of Frankie Knuckles to Sly & The Family Stone, with Missy Elliot, Moodyman, Felix Da Housecat, Outkast, and many more. Celebrating the artists of color that blazed the trails which lent themselves to Bob Moses’ sonic complexion, Howie and Vallance spotlight some of the music that preceded them with a brand new 23-track playlist worth multiple repeated listens.
