Since the initial start of the global pandemic, the future of live events and music festivals have remained uncertain. However, it seems that there may be a potential timeline for their return as Dr. Anthony S. Fauci has given a public predicted estimation.

During a conference held by the Association of Performing Arts Professionals on January 9, Dr. Fauci shared that concerts can potentially return in fall 2021. However, this is based on the assumption that 70% – 85% of the population receives vaccinations. He said,

“If everything goes right, this [will] occur some time in the fall of 2021…so that by the time we get to the early to mid-fall, you can have people feeling safe performing onstage as well as people in the audience.”

In addition to this news, Dr. Fauci disclosed that venues can be “back to almost full capacity of seating” if ventilation quality and proper air filters are implemented along with mask requirements. He referenced a German study that was conducted during an indoor concert that showed results of “low to very low” risk of COVID-19 spread. This was due to given ventilation, hygiene guidelines, and capacity standards.

Although there has been a slight setback on vaccine distributions as they have fallen behind schedule, Dr. Fauci assures that concerts can still return around this time.
