As music curators/journalists, there’s no greater pleasure than getting in on the ground floor with an artist. Behind the scenes, the Gelus (pronounced “jealous”) team has been preparing for this moment for a long time, and now the debut single, “Emerge/Arise,” is finally out!
Coming in at a pretty short 2m14s, “Emerge/Arise” wastes hardly any time with any sort of egregious intro, getting to the meat of the matter in just 40 seconds. The remainder is pure, unadulterated bass madness. It’s not a new construction or any sort of pattern that is groundbreaking — and, despite our calls for things new and shiny all the the time, it doesn’t always have to be.
Sometimes, all it takes is for something known to be done so well that you go, “You know what, this still absolutely bangs.”
