By 2020’s close, it was unequivocally clear that Ophelia Records‘ release history recommended it for consideration in Label of the Year conversations. Between spotlighting ascendant talent through its Advent EP series, hosting label debuts, and providing a platform for fan favorites such as Jason Ross, Trivecta, and Last Heroes, Ophelia’s junior year and its high-achieving character translated to a self-set obstacle for 2021: outperforming precedent. To no one’s surprise, Seven Lions‘ label is already rising to the challenge, hitting the ground running with its inaugural release of the new year, MitiS‘ “Try.”
MitiS’ first Ophelia original since October’s Shattered EP, “Try” manifests as a melodic marriage of his signature tools, from an emotive vocal supplied by RØRY to the single’s piano drive. The four-minute and 13-second output conveys that, like Ophelia Records, MitiS isn’t just picking up where he left off in 2020—he’s vaulting right over it.
